Nessip Zhunusbayev - presidential adviser of AIPS Asia

KUWAIT, December 2, 2012 - President of the Kuwait Sports Journalists' Association and AIPS Vice-president Faisal Al Qanai will head the continental body AIPS Asia for the next four years.

Mr Al Qanai was elected unopposed at AIPS Asia's 16th Annual Congress at the Radisson Blue Hotel today in Kuwait City.

The election for the AIPS Asia Executive Committee was seamless following the withdrawal of a number of candidates and the consequent unanimous election of the remaining nominees.

China's Zhang Haifeng will serve as First Vice-president. Zhang is President of the China Sports Press Association.

The Secretary General's post will be covered by Dr Seyed Abolhamid Ahmadi, President of the Iranian Sports Press Associaton.

The treasurers' position remains unfilled and will be determined at the next AIPS Congress to be held in Sochi, Russia, next April.

The veteran Korean media man Mr Gap Chul Park who has been president of AIPS Asia for more than 30 years did not stand for re-election and was unable to attend the Kuwait congress. New president Faisal Al Qanai moved that Mr Park be conferred with the title of Life Honorary President, a gesture which was greeted with enthusiastic applause.

Al Qanai appointed Nessip Zhunusbayev, President of the Sports Press Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan as his special advisor.

AIPS President Gianni Merlo congratulated the new Executive Commitee.
